4.Precision Mold (Extrusion Die Head Cap): Joint Research on High-Temperature Melt Temperature Measurement Technology

0

Cooperation Background

Jingcheng Mould is a domestic leader in the extrusion die head industry. Its high-end extrusion die heads, including multi-layer co-extrusion composite distributors and melt metering pumps, are mainly applied in high-end packaging and automotive interior sectors. During production, precise measurement of melt temperature (200–260°C) directly determines the thickness uniformity and surface flatness of extruded products from die heads. Conventional temperature measurement solutions adopt ordinary thermocouples, which suffer slow thermal response, signal distortion and vulnerability to damage under melt pressure impact. These drawbacks lead to low qualification rates of extruded products and fail to meet requirements of high-end customers, creating an urgent demand for high-precision temperature measurement technology tailored to high-temperature melt working conditions.

R&D Investment & Implementation Process

Tianjian launched joint technical research on high-temperature melt temperature measurement technology with Jingcheng Mould and formed a dedicated R&D team targeting three core technical challenges:
  1. Pressure impact protection for high-temperature melt: Custom armored temperature sensors were developed with high-strength high-temperature-resistant armored shells, and the probe structure of sensors was optimized to prevent probe damage caused by high-pressure melt impact.
  2. Signal stability under high-temperature environments: The material of internal sensor wires was upgraded to high-temperature shielded cables, mitigating signal interference induced by high-temperature oxidation and electromagnetic disturbance and overcoming signal distortion defects.
  3. Fast response performance: The thermal response structure of sensors was optimized to cut response time below 0.5 seconds, enabling real-time capture of melt temperature fluctuations and supplying timely data support for die head parameter adjustment.
Throughout the R&D phase, both parties jointly completed hundreds of simulation tests and on-site trial production. Continuous iterative optimization was conducted on sensor structures and signal processing modules based on trial production data to guarantee full compatibility with operating conditions of Jingcheng Mould’s premium die heads.

R&D Achievements & Cooperation Value

Groundbreaking results were delivered via joint research: high-precision armored thermocouples and matched signal processing modules customized for high-temperature melt environments were successfully developed, with core technical indicators ranking industry-leading:
  • Temperature measurement range: 0–300°C
  • Measurement accuracy: ±0.1%
  • Response time: ≤0.5 s
  • Tolerable melt pressure: ≤50 MPa
  • Service life: over 8 months
All pain points of traditional temperature measurement schemes have been fully resolved.
After commercial deployment of this technology, the qualification rate of extruded products from Jingcheng’s high-end extrusion die heads rose from 95% to 99.5%, and thickness uniformity deviation of finished products was controlled within ±0.01 mm, fully satisfying high-end client specifications. This technology empowers Jingcheng Mould to break foreign monopoly in high-end die head products and realize indigenous R&D breakthroughs.
A long-term joint R&D mechanism has been established between the two sides. Tianjian provides ongoing technical iteration support and develops customized temperature measurement solutions synchronously for Jingcheng’s new-generation die head products, jointly driving technological upgrading across the entire extrusion die head industry.
